I can’t make exercise feel better, but you might want to make sure you’re eating enough potassium rich foods to help alleviate the occurrence of charley horses and other muscle cramps.

Some foods that are not bananas that are good sources of potassium are potatoes, artichoke hearts, black beans, and avocados. If you have access to your hospital records from your recent extended stay there, you might want to check your blood work to see if you get any insight from that. Exercise is not always fun, but chronic muscle cramping should not be part of it because if you have a charley horse, you can’t do the exercise even if you want to.
