I have a first cousin once removed who was adopted out, and the first time she and I were in the same room with one of her sisters, the sister kept staring at me and said she could finally see who her adopted sister looked like.
My adopted out cousin and I do share some quirky similarities, but the way she and I were both "othered" in one short sentence by her "sister" was astonishing.
I don't yet have the pleasure of knowing my cousin well, but she is super loyal, and I often think she (and all adoptees) deserve more than what they get.
