I think much of the medical world has not yet caught up to the idea that a woman would voluntarily give up her fertility — after all the surgeons performing the sterilization procedures are the same ones delivering the babies. Maybe we need a special discipline for OB/GYNs that focuses on preventing pregnancy, then we might have doctors who are better versed in and more open to permanent sterilization for younger women.
