THRIFT STORE ADVENTURES
Talking Talons
Cedar Crest, New Mexico
After eighteen years living in and around “The Triangle” of North Carolina, I now live in what is known as the Near North Valley of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
It is a lovely place with lovely views, but even when you live in a postcard, you occasionally want to get away to actually explore the vistas that surround you, and one of my favorite quick afternoon getaways is the vista to the east — Cedar Crest, New Mexico.
As the crow flies
While the distance from my house to Cedar Crest is just 16 miles as the crow flies, I am not a crow. If I am in a hurry, I take Interstate 40, and if I am not, I head south to Central Avenue, then east on the famed Route 66. Twenty miles and 45 minutes later, I arrive at my destination, and one day, I took time to stop at Talking Talons Thrift Store, one of two thrift establishments on the same stretch of road, Hey Mavis! being on the east side of NM-14, and Talking Talons on the west.
I had already been to Hey Mavis! Thrift Store on a previous getaway and had enjoyed the many delights offered there, and I was curious to see what Talking Talons had to offer, and it turned out that what it had to offer was a lot.
